EDUCATION AND COVID SUPPORT

Education

K.I.D.S. focuses on bringing education to children, youth and young adults to improve their lives and futures. Together, we support and provide kindergartens, English classes, computer programs, vocational and university bursaries. We also provide a residence for students so they can attend post-secondary schools in the city. Most of the children we support come from incredibly poor rural villages, where, if not for our programs; they would be child labourers in brick factories, farming fields or fishing. K.I.D.S. also build classrooms, schools and libraries.

BIKES, BOOKS AND BACKPACKS

Getting to school in rural areas of Cambodia is not easy. Many children live a long distance from school, especially high school. Often the kids have to go home for lunch and so they make four trips a day... in the hot sun, on dusty roads, or in the pouring rain. A bicycle can make the difference between getting an education or not. Each Year K.I.D.S. buys hundreds of bikes for students. We also give out backpacks so they can carry their books and uniforms, which are difficult for some families to afford. Families also use the bikes to get to clinics and markets on weekends.

FAMILY BATHROOMS

In Cambodia, many families live without a bathroom, outhouse or toilet. Most of the kids in our programs come from poor families and do not have access to a toilet or bathing facilities. Each year thanks to K.I.D.S. donors, we build families bathrooms. For girls especially a closed outside bathroom give them safety and privacy. For the family, it also brings hygiene and a place where they can do laundry. We have also built bathrooms for schools, where there were none. You can imagine what a difference this makes to a family.

CLEAN DRINKING WATER

One billion people lack clean drinking water on our planet. K.I.D.S. is working on lowering that number. Thanks to K.I.D.S. donors we have 27 clean water systems up and running at rural schools and are able to bring 90,000 people clean water daily by building filtrations systems at schools, where chhildren can drink freely and famiiles can take clean water home. We know contaminated water causes diseases, dehydration and diarrhea. By providing clean water to communities, we are improving their health and young people's ability to learn.
